Hundredth Name of God

I hovered like a silent kite in a black and moonless night
over a sleeping city I did not know but one familiar
to me nonetheless like ancient Rome and down
below there lived the lives of many friends
and even lovers who once were closer
to me than my most cherished dream
if only I could wake them one by one
and redirect their gaze
upward into eternal
wind our energy
flowing like
a river to
the sea
at dawn
to meet the light
no lawman’s words
no royal decree, no mantra
but only all penetrating silence
in the secret language of the soul
which knows the hundredth name of God
